Early Learning Education. This is key for children’s intellectual development.  ABCMouse.com is a fantastically organized early learning education resource to get kids started.  A child involved in early learning activities tends to be more successful throughout their education years and in post education.  They set more challenging goals and achieve those goals.

Early Learning Education – The Introduction

The Earliest

Typically, the most common introduction to early learning for a child is as a baby.  This education is not formal or organized or intended necessarily as intellectual education.  In fact, it is more of an interactive game with a baby.  It’s simple.  Talk to the baby.  Talk gibberish, mimic baby noises, create noises and make faces to see if the baby will mimic in return.  The more interaction and verbalization with the infant, the better.

The Interim

This interaction develops over time and eventually the infant will be a toddler and learning to speak the words of a language, perhaps multiple languages.  This is such a great time because their little brains are like sponges absorbing everything they possibly can with their every waking moment.  Each experience is engraved in their minds.  In later years they start asking WHY about everything!  But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves right here.

Two Paths

There are in general two common thoughts on how we can go about instigating a path of higher IQ and intelligence for our kids.  One path involves exposure to classical music.  Often beginning even prior to birth with headphones pressed to the pregnant belly.  Many believe the fetus begin to recognize patterns and rhythm which can later assist with their speech, language, math and other areas.  The other path involves reading.  Parents who read to children from infants and beyond expose the child to a much broader vocabulary.  The child’s mind is enriched with comprehension.  Their ability to communicate increases which provides them an intellectual edge over their peers.

Early Learning Education for Ability Appropriate

Notice the word “ability” has been used rather than “age”.  I have a special needs child and a child who has proven to be above average with regular testing.  I have learned early learning education is more about introducing concepts appropriate to the child’s individual ability.  However, I bear witness to the advantages, regardless of ability, to introduce the most basic of concepts at the earliest of ages. I was fortunate enough to start with the earliest of phases while being home with my newborns.

We have always held the best intentions for raising our children.  It is our dream to give them all they need to succeed.  Our wish is to provide them with opportunities we didn’t have as kids.  We hope to make their lives better.  My guess is you feel the same for your kids!

Despite our intentions and so on, we are not perfect!  In fact, it is much more challenging than I had ever dreamed.  One child is constantly asking me to solve problems.  Driving down the road, he challenges me to solve complex mathematical problems and I can’t get beyond 2+2 because I am focused on the pedestrians looking to dash between traffic.  My special needs child on the other hand loves music and loves to be read to but there don’t always seem to be enough hours in the day.  I discovered we couldn’t do it all on our own.  We needed help!  We still do…and resources.  That is why I have turned to ABCMouse.com.
