God Made Strawberries for Me – The Story is inspired by memories of being a little girl helping my grandma in the garden. Recently, I have rekindled my love for strawberries. As I was indulging on an entire bowl full of them, thinking to myself this is all I want for dinner. I realized the power these strawberries have over me. And I can’t feel more grateful to the God up there for having created such a delightfully indulgent fruit as the strawberry! So here is my story. (My God Made Strawberries for Me Blog can be seen here).
God Made Strawberries for Me
Oh, the sun is awake! I must get up and put my shoes on in a hurry. Breakfast is waiting for me at the table. A glass of orange juice and a big bowl of my favorite cereal with fresh strawberries.
Today, I get to find more strawberries. At the end of the path by our garden is the strawberry patch. I have a special bucket I take with me. My job is to pick the strawberries and put them in the bucket.
I eat my breakfast as fast as I can and smile with each bite of strawberry. Strawberries are so sweet and yummy. Then sometimes they are what grandma calls tart which means they aren’t ripe yet. She says they are on the green side. But when I look at them, they still look red to me.
I clear my dirty dishes from the table and clean up my mess. Then I grab my bucket and away we go. Skipping along the path to the strawberry patch. I see fresh pea pods growing. Broccoli heads, spring onions and asparagus too. But my favorite are the strawberries.
The birds are chirping an early morning song. I think I will whistle along. Grandpa taught me how to whistle. Then a very pretty butterfly flies in front of me. I want to follow it. It must be going to the strawberry patch too. Look over there, I see a white rabbit in the garden. Grandma won’t like that. She will tell the bunny to shoo away!
The end of the path is getting closer. That means I will see the strawberry patch soon. My eyes are ready to look for big strawberries and little strawberries, a lot red and a little red, just not all green or all white.
Hip hip hooray! I found the strawberry patch.
And I see lots of strawberries on it. This is so exciting. I start picking strawberries right away. This one looks so yummy. Grandma won’t mind if I eat just one.
Wow, that strawberry was the most delicious strawberry I have EVER tasted in my WHOLE LIFE! Look, here is a strawberry bigger than the last strawberry. I wonder if it tastes even better than the last strawberry because it IS bigger. I bite down into this big strawberry. Oh my! This is a MORE DELICIOUS THAN MOST strawberry! I just love strawberries.
I picked more strawberries and put them in the bucket to take home with me and give to grandma. But along the way, I couldn’t help myself. The strawberries were perfect! They were juicy and sweet and tart and delicious all at the same time. It was wonderful! Then when I got to the house, I looked down into my bucket to see there were only two strawberries left.
I stood before my grandma as she asked me what happened to all the strawberries. And I had to tell her I saved only the best two for grandma and me because God made Strawberries for ME.

p.s. The picture below isn’t her but the image also reminds me of her being in the garden showing me how to pick the strawberries. In full disclosure, I was more guilty of this same behavior with the raspberries and the raspberry bush than the strawberries. Strawberries are more bountiful to get at the grocery store now though.
