Phone Photography Tricks – New Career
All while you are enthusiastically creating amazing photographs, you will be learning a new skill. Eventually, this skill could lead you down a new career path. Not everyone becomes a smartphone ninja, particularly when it comes to taking pictures. Now, envision being able to have supplemental income simply for doing something you already enjoy doing!
The Hobbyist…Forever
I ‘ll admit it, I dabbled with photography and considered using it as a supplemental income. With no formal training, I listened to others talk about composition, angles, close-ups, landscapes, objects, people and more. I ordered book after book of different styles of photography. Mostly, I invested in rolls of film and simply took pictures.
However, something does indeed happen when you begin taking lots of pictures. Eventually, you end up with a few really great shots! Once you have those, then you start to work more intentionally to take more great shots. This is what happened to me. It started as just a thing with my sister-in-law. We both loved taking pictures of the scenery and wildlife up camping. Trying to get that great picture of the moose or the deer. From there, it graduated to taking pictures of my nephew and down the road, my niece. Just pictures.
The Traveler’s Influence
One summer, I traveled to Europe and my world of photography changed. I knew I would be taking lots of pictures having never been overseas before and wanting to document it all well. My suitcase was packed with loads of film. No camera phones back then. I was gone for approximately 6 weeks and came home with more than 70 rolls of film! Almost all the roles had 24-36 exposures each. Developing the film and putting them in photo albums was quite a project!
Anyway, as it were, the more shots I took, the more great ones I had to show for it. Before I knew it, I had been hired to take engagement photos, then wedding photos, and more engagements and more weddings. Taking family pictures for a couple families. Some of which I have forgotten until someone else reminds me I did that. I didn’t always keep a copy of my work. Word of advice: Always, keep a copy of your work — print, digital, or however — keep a copy!!!
The Smartphone User
Look, I am the last person to know or understand how to use my smartphone. I often query, “if my smartphone is so smart, why does it seem so complicated for me”? I finally figured out how to play a couple games and I have conquered Pandora and the alarms. That is all I really need. But anymore, I don’t haul my camera with me in its big, heavy bag with its various lenses and filters. So I do use my camera on my smartphone.
