There is something magical about summer music and wine. A long winter and unpredictable spring has us screaming for summer. A chance to welcome the sunshine and warm breezes of hot summer days and nights. Early mornings, late starry nights…the long days of summer. It’s the time to get outdoors! Sun up to sun up, the summer is filled with life and activity somewhere at all times. And what else happens outdoors in the summer? Music. Everywhere.
People on the bus singing. On the street corner or near the museums, playing their instruments. Construction workers in residential areas with boom boxes turned up. Billboards advertising the next big concert. Convertibles down, tunes cranked! Think Miami Vice listening to Dire Straits.
Music Makes a Great Start to Any Day
Today, it’s still a spring day. But my mind is wheeling toward a couple of events happening over the next few months. Let alone thinking of what needs to get done today. To keep from being anxious, it’s time to put on music.
There is nothing like waking up on a Friday morning with a touch of caffeine within arms reach and jazz music getting the body moving. I am enjoying the album titled “You’re Driving Me Crazy” by Van Morrison and Joey DeFrancesco. I just found it on Amazon. Ahh, so jazz isn’t your jam. That’s okay. On Amazon, you can find tons of music to suit your preference. You can pick your genre on Amazon here.
Summer Music and Wine in the Afternoon
Really, I am looking forward to another disc arriving. The new Sting and Shaggy album, “44/876”. These beats are perfect for that transition from spring to summer, morning to afternoon. Uncork a light sweet fine Pinot Grigio wine from Napa Valley or Sonoma Valley for a bit of happy hour with friends on the deck. A few light appetizers. Revel in the laughter, the casual atmosphere, the conversation.
Music has this way of carrying a person through the day. It keeps the energy and momentum of the day flowing. Sounds from the radio or your streaming device aids in avoiding the mid-afternoon sleepiness crash. Tunes keep moods uplifted, smiles on faces and people humming as they go about their business. And what a great way to end a work day while sitting in traffic, listening to great music. How about kicking off the happy hour with music? Music creates a welcoming environment for people to relax. So does wine! And both are a universal language!!
Truly take these moments to enjoy life! Because this is the lifestyle of fine wine!
Summer Music and Wine in the Evening
You don’t think I am stopping at happy hour, do you? Oh no, not happening! The evening is still young and ahead of us. Break out Imagine Dragons and fine red wine, Shiraz or Malbec. One of my favorite bands to listen to in summer time is Santana. Spread the blanket across the grass. Have a picnic with family and friends. Especially around the lake or in the park for 4th of July fireworks.
Fine Wines Around the World
There are such incredible musical talents crossing all genres and countries. In Germany, wine friends are transitioning from an afternoon of music from the Scorpions to an evening with David Hasselhoff. In the United Kingdom, The Cure covers the airwaves by day and the Rolling Stones cover our wine friends for the evening. Considering time zone differences, bringing up the next day are our wine friends in Australia. Who do they pick from? Little River Band, Midnight Oil, INXS, The Bee Gees or one of rock-n-roll’s all-time favorites, AC/DC. I know! It’s too hard to pick just one!

Summer Music and Wine in Different Environments
Always, daily at home. This is the easiest and most cost-effective way to enjoy this perfect pairing. Everything is at your fingertips. No packing, no hauling, no hassle. Put on your favorite album from your personal music library or set your streaming music device. Indoor or outdoor or in and out. It’s all there and life is easy street.
Make it a weekly event with friends at an outdoor favorite local hot spot. Check out what your local area has to offer. For example, Boise, Idaho offers “Alive After Five” on Wednesday evenings and “First Thursdays” on Thursday evenings, both downtown.
These are throughout the summer. Music, events, community gatherings. People playing in the fountains. Most areas offer something similar in a downtown area or surrounding areas. The hot spot doesn’t have to be where everyone else is either. Favorite spots can be as well off the beaten path and as private as the top of the mountain in the movie “Man from Snowy River”.

LIVE Theater
Another fantastic way to enjoy music and wine is attending an outdoor Shakespeare Festival. Not all the plays are musicals but don’t let that stop you from adoring them with fine wine. But luckily, enough plays are musicals, such as the recent big hit, Mamma Mia! This is a fabulous and quintessential summer event for pairing with wine.
What’s Playing
Mamma Mia, the movie, hit box offices with a smash a few years back. Now, the sequel is nearing its release. ABBA music is alive and well! Those of you who lived in the 1970’s are sure to know a few lyrics of an ABBA song or two. Grease focuses the story line for the high school crowd. Mamma Mia’s story line is for the out of high school life adventurers figuring out what comes next crowd. Fortunately, for those of us who love attending LIVE theater, both of these 70’s gems turned into stage musicals.
Occasionally, there is a night when you don’t feel like going to a LIVE performance. Then relish the easy home pairing of music and wine via movie musical.
