Back to School Fall Season

Primarily, we reserve our thoughts to school age children and the hustling and bustling of finding backpacks, shopping for items on a supply list and adjusting bedtime schedules back to a reasonable routine.  Yet, back to school fall season holds meaning far beyond that.

The Supply List

Going as far back as I can remember, I always loved the smell and touch of the new school supplies.  Tracking down the supply list for my grade that year.  The anticipation of what I would get to do with those new materials.  I remember how exciting it is graduating from the box of eight colors in the crayon box to 16 or 24 colors.  It’s empowering leveling up from safety scissors to pointed craft scissors.  Then, being old enough to need binders and college ruled subject notebooks with pocket folders.  By the fourth grade, I was confident I was well on my way to high school and college. Truly, getting supplies is the official sign and feeling of back to school fall season.

The Ads

The store ads in the mail, on the TV, across the internet; including on FREE TV.  Glue sticks 4 for $1, spiral bound notebooks for twenty-five cents.  Buy one, get one free.  Purchase this set of water colors and receive this notebook for only a nickel on this special back-to-school-bonanza-shopping day only!  With all these specials on basic office supplies, as a mom, I shop like a madwoman does on Black Friday!  In this case, I am the Madhatter and I stock up on school and office supplies!  I have enough pencils to send my kids off to school with until they hit college!

Supplies Not Just for School

Gather these office supplies at these low prices NOW for all your events.  If you hold annual meetings, now is the time to purchase notepads and pens for your attendees.  For small business owners or home-based offices, get your supplies while the stores are in price reduction wars.  By the way, this is the best time to shop for your anything computer, tablet related.  The market counts on college kids needing to have their own computers.  Anymore, kids in junior high and high school are needing them too!  Printers, shredders, inks, paper reams.  Find your best deals now!

Clothes Shopping

Trends and Bargains

Crazy days of school clothes shopping.  Finding the trendiest new fashions for the pre-teens and teenagers.  Grown out of hand-me-downs and no longer willing to wear just anything, our young folk have specific fashion needs from hair products to clothing to accessories and shoes.   Plus, with the change of the season you will want to shop for bargain and clearance items on the outgoing summer selections.  Hopefully, next summer the new digs will fit.

Layering

But now is also the time of year to buy those layering articles of clothing.  It’s chilly in the morning and evenings and you need a bit of extra warmth but the days are still plenty warm.  Hoodies are the best for this but as the fall progresses and we get out to those late-night football games, we need sweaters.  Make sure you shop for a couple of sweaters!

Looking Ahead to Winter

Speaking of sweaters, don’t forget to keep your eye out for the way too early Christmas ugly sweater on the market.  Trust me, the holiday items are starting to appear!  You may as well find one and grab the deal or get it shipped to you before the holiday shipping frenzy and all your packages are late.

Watch for last year’s winter coats to be mixed with new ones this year.  Look for socks, thermal underwear, winter boots, ski coats, and more.  These are showing up as available but when that first snap of real cold hits they disappear like melted ice cream on a triple digit day in the summer.

Sports Collectibles

Football season is upon us.  Fantasy football is thriving.  The NFL…no comment.  It depends on your team, right?  When your team is on top, then you rule the roost.  When your team is falling behind its because some referee somewhere had a vendetta and there were questionable calls against your team.  I know, I sit on my couch and it happens to my team too.  Regardless, stand with team pride!  Or sit on the couch.  Find team collectibles and your favorite sports jerseys and more here.  GO TEAM!

Fall Comfort Food and Fine Wine

back to school fall season

How can we not think of comfort food and wine in the Fall?  It’s all part of the changing leaves.  The comfort foods tend to be a heavier meal; therefore, pairing with more bold wines, often found in red wines such as a Merlot or Malbec.  There are very nice fine wine blends too coming from our Direct Cellars wine club.  These wines are delivered to your door and come with note cards showing suggested meal pairings.  Order your wines today.  Try a new recipe or pairing.

Set Your Clock Back

back to school fall season

Another event that happens with back to school fall season is the changing of the clock.  This is known officially as Daylight Saving Time.  The idea is to maximize daylight hours.  While Benjamin Franklin was a proponent of this, he was not where the idea originated.  Years ago, Germany was the first country to enact this change of time. In 1966, the United States passed an act to establish consistency in time.  This act was called the Uniform Time Act.  It starts the last Sunday in April to the last Sunday in October.  Although the act said states had the option of remaining on standard time year-round, which is exactly what Hawaii and Arizona have done.  Too bad we can’t set the clock back on aging!  Or can we?  There are wonderful beauty products and artisan products available to help now.

Holidays

Halloween

Does it sound too early to discuss Halloween?  It’s not!  Believe me.  With just weeks away, you need to shop for your costumes NOW.  The sales are happening!  Don’t wait another minute.   Costumes range from historical figures to famous couples, emergency and authority figures to TV characters.  Go traditional princess gowns and vampire cloaks to famous superheroes.  All the added accessories you need are available too.  Don’t forget the decorations! Indoor party décor and spooky outdoor lighting, fog and more!

Paranormal – Coming Soon!

Have you ever heard of orbs? Small circular spots that randomly and unexplainably appear in photographs and on surveillance recordings?  There is debate as to what these bubbles of light are all about.  I intend to do research and share with my readers the ongoing thoughts on both sides and the information to support both sides.  Then I plan to share my experiences.  Before you make up your mind about orbs – wait until you hear this!

Thanksgiving & Christmas & Hanukkah

The stores around town are stocking shelves.  Certainly, the products are available right now, but we can revisit this in a few weeks.

However, for those of you with loved ones serving our country overseas, get your holiday shopping and shipping squared away.

Please thank these mighty brave soldiers on my behalf!
